P&F Charts - Daily Adjusted Close prices for Stocks

Important change to handling of Adjusted Daily Close prices for stocks.

The P&F app uses the stock data provider AlphaVantage to obtain price data for use in the app.  This service is used by many stock analysis applications.  However, AlphaVantage has recently moved to a "pay to use" model for adjusted daily stock prices - they originally provided these for free.  All other available data is still free.

P&F Charts used to default to using daily adjusted close prices but this now fails unless you have a premium AlphaVantage key.  This version of the app has been changed to default to non-adjusted close data to avoid the need for a premium key.

However, if you wish to use this data type, you will need to perform the following additional steps:

  1. Purchase your own premium key from AlphaVantage (not facilitated by this app) at https://www.alphavantage.co/premium/.  Please Note: The developer of P&F Charts is not in any way associated with AlphaVantage and receives no gains should you choose to obtain a premium AlphaVantage key.
  2. Update the P&F App to use this new key (in place of the free default one provided by the app) by navigating to the "Support" screen and choosing the "Update AlphaVantage Key" option.

3. Change to use Daily Adjusted prices on your chosen stock by:

... displaying the desired stock and using the "Parameters" button at the bottom

... tapping the "Price Time Interval" option under 'Stock Price Data'

... choosing 'Daily Adjusted' from the list
...and tapping OK to the warning message provided

NOTE: you will receive an error message from AlphaVantage if you do not have a premium key that looks like the following...

Where is my data stored - can anyone else access it?

All of the app data is stored on your local device and, in the case of Clever Contacts or P&F Charts , in your own personal Apple iCloud account.  It is not shared with the developer or available to anyone else.  Only those that have access to your devices have access to your data. See below for additional information regarding data storage for particular apps. Clever Contacts All the contact related information (name, address, phone numbers, emails, contact photo etc) in Clever Contacts is actually saved in and read from your Contacts App on the device.  Membership in groups (e.g. Family), notes, photos associated with notes and other settings data is maintained by Clever Contacts in separate files. These will either be only on your local device or in your iCloud account depending on which storage option you have chosen in the Clever Contacts “Settings” screen. P&F Charts - no prices?

Sometimes you may see a stock reflected in a watchlist that shows NO prices like in the example above. This happens when you have added a new stock on a different device connected to the same iCloud account.  The stock details have synced but the price data does not (by design).  Just tap on the stock and the app will automatically try and fetch all the price data from our stock supplier for you.

P&F Charts - Where does the Stock Data come from?

P&F Charts sources all of its stock data from the Alpha Vantage service.  This is an amazing service which provides a huge range of daily stock prices for stocks, indices and currencies from all over the world.  See their website for further information.  It is also important to remember that AlphaVantage update the daily prices sometime after the close of trading for a specific stock.  If you want intraday data, try using an intraday interval (e.g. hourly).  You can change this on the Parameters screen for a specific stock in your watchlists. However, it sometimes (not very often) inexplicably drops a particular stock for some period of time.  The search will say they support it (and probably did until yesterday) but will report no data available when asked for the latest prices.  Unfortunately this is completely out of our control and Alpha Vantage unfortunately does not have a support capability that can answer questions about particular stock price availability.  If this happe
